Packing List vs Shipping Plan: what's the difference?
Two complementary documents, often confused. One describes the content, the other the transport organization.
The Packing List: the content
The Packing List describes precisely what is shipped: products, barcodes, HS codes, quantities, packages, dimensions, net and gross weight, volume. It is the reference document for handling, inspection and customs.
The Shipping Plan: the organization
The Shipping Plan describes how the goods travel: transport mode, local and main carrier, ports of loading and discharge, planned pickup, departure and arrival dates. It's the operational roadmap.
Why keep them aligned
Both documents must stay consistent: if packages change, the Packing List evolves, and so do the totals (weight, volume) feeding the transport plan. Generating these documents from a single data entry avoids discrepancies and re-keying.
